Hosting Provider Savvis, CenturyLink Technology Solutions

Amazon Web Services, Rackspace, SunGard, Verizon, and now . . .

Hosting Provider Savvis Is Now CenturyLink Technology Solutions | TechCrunch: "... CenturyLink seeks to leverage its customer base, which still uses hosting for the most part. But by calling Savvis “CenturyLink Technology Solutions,” the company is using terminology that has a deep association with the IT of old, not the new application-centric infrastructure that cloud providers offer. Instead, it’s a general term meant to show customers that CenturyLink offers end-to-end solutions. CenturyLink Cloud will have a deeper emphasis on cloud services stemming from its roots in providing infrastructure services and sophisticated orchestration to ... But there are some strong competitors that the company has to face. Amazon Web Services, Rackspace, SunGard and Verizon are all tough competitors with deep infrastructures of their own that will be selling their own innovations in the changing app economy."

Hosting on Amazon S3, CloudFront

How To: Hosting on Amazon S3 with CloudFront — PaulStamatiou.com: "A few weeks ago my DNS provider Zerigo sent an email stating that due to recent infrastructure upgrades they would need to raise their prices. For my meager DNS needs that ended up being a huge price hike: from $39 per year to $25 per month1. Prices were set to take effect a month later. I decided to put my current dev work — designing and building new photoblog functionality to showcase my Japan trip photos — on hold to move away from Zerigo . . . " (read more at link above)

Google Tiered Channel Program, Google Cloud Platform

Google Prepping Tiered Channel Program For Google Cloud Platform: "Google plans to expand its channel business with the introduction sometime this year of a tiered channel program to all potential channel partners for its Google Cloud Platform. Chris Rimer, global head of partners for Google Cloud Platform, on Monday told solution providers his company plans to roll out the program some time this year to make it easy for channel partners to either work directly with Google or via other IT vendors in partnership with Google. Rimer unveiled the plans at the Red Hat Cloud Symposium, a one-day event held in Scottsdale, Ariz., in advance of this week's Red Hat Partner Conference. The Red Hat Cloud Symposium also brought executives of both Google and Amazon Web Services on stage in separate pitches for channel mindshare...."

Microsoft Partners Uproar, Cloud Sales Commission Cuts

Some partners are so angry about having their fees cut that they're prepared to sell competing products, like Google Apps. One partner told CRN he's planning to change his business to be less dependent on Microsoft partner fees. (source infra)

Microsoft Partners In Uproar Over Cloud Sales Commission Cuts: "Even partners that don't have a direct financial stake in the Advisor EA Deploy program told CRN the fee cuts are a troubling sign. "Microsoft has been preaching that the cloud was going to level the playing field [for partners], but nothing is going to stop them from cutting margins," said one disillusioned partner who has been selling Microsoft cloud services since the Business Online Productivity Suite was launched in 2008. "The channel needs consistency, but Microsoft has changed the payout and commission structure four times in two years," said another disgruntled partner. "How can a partner build a go-to-market model around a payout plan that keeps changing?"..."

Microsoft's late fixing Windows, but ahead on the cloud | Microsoft windows - InfoWorld: "... The point is that the center of computing has already moved to the cloud, and which device you use is becoming secondary to the computing experience. Microsoft, compared to all other members of the old guard, is in the best position to be a huge player in cloud computing ... The challenge for Microsoft is to pull all those cloud offerings into coherent, customizable packages that make sense for customers. Currently, just finding information about them requires surfing dozens of Microsoft websites. Of course, Microsoft partners will need to play a role in pulling together those solutions as well, and as usual there are rough edges in many of Microsoft's offerings that will need to ironed out...."
